Glass bottles for primers and foundations to be discontinued
As sustainability is one of the core values of Zao, we seek to continuously re-evaluate our packaging, while weighing the pros and cons of the materials. One recent development is the decision to discontinue packaging their primers and foundations in glass bottles. Instead, they will now be sold in refill tubes only. There are two reasons behind this decision.
1) The weight of glass bottles
Zao has initially chosen glass bottles for their elegance and recyclability. However, this material also has some inherent downsides. Glass bottles are pretty heavy, leading to increased transportation costs and more significant carbon emissions during shipping. As we strive to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact, we have decided that the ecological cons of glass bottles outweigh their benefits. At the same time, the refill tubes are more travel friendly, and it is easier for the customers to take the tubes with them on a trip.
2) The recyclability of the pumps
Though glass is easily recyclable, the small pumps used in Zao foundation and primer bottles are difficult to recycle. On the other hand, the refilled plastic tubes are easily recyclable.
There is still stock of the primers and foundations in glass bottles for now. If you prefer the glass packaging, you could buy one now and then keep refilling it in the future. It is crucial to continue the rethinking of the best packaging materials in line with our commitment to being an eco-friendly brand.
